New Teacher Feature
Mar 17, 2016
Here at school teachers come and they go. When teachers leave, new staff is hired. Have you ever thought about who the staff really is? They are people just like us. They all live normal lives. Teaching is just their occupation. Have you ever wondered how your teacher became a teacher in the first place? Or better yet, what they were like growing up? Your questions about some of the newest teachers may be answered.
In the last year, WCHS has hired 8 new teachers for an array of subjects. In an ever-growing WCSD administration, it can be difficult to find the time to really get to know your teachers. Teachers all have one thing in common: they were all kids, doing everyday things kids do. It may have been playing sports, an instrument,or being in a club.
Ms. Grace Fasano, Math teacher, is one of many new teachers here at WCHS. Ms. Fasano grew up in the area, and is a graduate of Centerville High School. During high school Ms. Fasano was in the marching band. After high school Ms. Fasano was a Redhawk at Miami University. At Miami University Ms. Fasano mastered in finacle math. “I love math, it’s a beautiful thing that applies to anything and everything in life” said Ms. Fasano.
Growing up Ms. Fasano’s hobbies included marching band and golf “I’ve been golfing my whole life” she said. Ms. Fasano is the new WCHS girls golf coach. Ms. Fasano said she decided to teach at WCHS because “I grew up in the area, and the community is great!” When asked about her goals for the high school she said “I want to help the golf team, also a personal finance class.” Personal finance is your own money: how you earn it, manage it, hopefully make it grow. It includes what you spend (your budget), your assets, saving and any debts.
Ms. Bridgette Barney is also one of 8 new staff teachers here at the WCHS. Ms. Barney also grew up in the area. She is a graduate of Tecumseh High School in New Carlisle. During high school, Barney played softball. After high school Barney went on to attend Urbana University, majoring in integrated science for 5 ½ years. “Science is an important field, because it’s constantly changing” she said.
During college Ms. Barney played softball for Urbana University’s D2 NCAA softball program. Ms. Barney is the new WCMS softball coach. Ms. Barney is perfect for the job due to her extensive softball background. When asked why Ms. Barney chose WCHS she said , “WCHS was the most welcoming.” If Ms. Barney isn’t playing softball or traveling she is definitely reading. She owns over 400 different books.
Every teacher is different, But teachers all have one thing in common; they leave an everlasting impression on you. Lets hope Ms. Fasano and Ms. Barney leave lasting impressions on WCHS, students, and staff.
