Celebrate Earth Day today!

Cynthia Magana, Staff Writer

If you asked someone when Earth Day is, they probably would have to pull out their smart phones and google it. Earth Day is today, April, 22!

Earth Day is an annual holiday where specific events are held worldwide to support our environment’s protection, like planting trees and going green. Trees are like the lungs to our environment. Planting trees provide oxygen for our environment and clean the air for us.

On Sunday, April 24 at Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center in Yellow Springs there will be a 5K and 10K walk/ run. It’s $35 to join. Just go to Speedyfeet.com and register. The run starts at 10 a.m. rain or shine. The top males and females from age 10 and under the age of 70 and will receive a Glen Helen giftcard in addition to their award for being top ten in the race. The purpose of this 5K walk/run is exploring nature, getting fresh air and just going outside to do something. This race is held in honor of Earth Day.

According to Beth Rowen on InfoPlease.com, there are plenty of ways to help make the environment cleaner and safer for us and animals around the world. For example, you can recycle your electronic waste. Every year thousands of electronic devices are thrown into landfills and polluting the environment when they could be recycled. Junk mail is a bad impact on the environment and reducing it could be very helpful and it would declutter your home.
