On Saturday, October 14th, the West Carrollton Marching Band went to the Miamisburg Invitational. This year’s band’s show is Cygnus, a show about the tragedy at Swan Lake. Cygnus takes place at Swan Lake with a black and white swan fighting for the prince. The music portrays the tragedy of how the black swan treats the white swan for the prince. The show has ballet parts, the show is more of a tense and fast-paced show.
We were then ready to go and perform, drum majors got in front of the brass and woodwind line leading them down the stadium, and prop people hurried ahead to get to our giant swan props and our ramp. After getting the props and ramp set up on the field and getting back in line. The announcer asked our drum majors if our bands were ready to perform. Everyone got into their first positions ready to place our 6-minute show. The drastic change in the weather made the performance difficult during the course of the show. The band parents talked to our band directors and asked if the kids would be able to leave early so that we would get sick in the rain. We ended up going back to the high school with our drum majors having to go back to Miamisburg. The band placed third place and fan favorite out of 5 other bands.
The Marching Band had another competition at Centerville performing with 6 other bands. The members of the band were feeling good about the day’s competition and how they thought it was gonna go. Everything was coming along and people were focusing and ready to perform. The band performed first at 2:15. Until the awards were given, the band sat in the stadium cheering on the other band members and guard. We didn’t place but we did get fan favorites overall adding another year to the record. The Marching band has earned the trophy Fan Favorite at Centerville for the past 7 years and wants to continue to win for years to come. Finals are coming up for the Marching Band on November 4th.
