Culture Club Assembly
With the Culture Club Assembly just around the corner, the advisors who are putting together the assembly were asked to shed light on the many cultures of WCHS. Culture club is a club here at WCHS that brings together many different people to celebrate their heritage and ethnicities. The assembly is planned by some of our staff and is run by students in many ways. The advisors allow the participants to express their culture in any way they feel comfortable. Whether it be talking about their culture or showing things that are done in their culture, the participants are able to express themselves and be themselves. There is always a flag ceremony showing all of the different cultures that are represented at WCHS.
Sra. Ulrich has nothing but praise for the assembly. She stated, “I believe Culture club is really important to many of the students in our school. It allows them to teach and learn about their own cultures as well as other cultures. I also believe that because the dances are all student-led, it teaches students great leadership skills. I know most students in the school really enjoy the assembly. I learn new things every year about different cultures, and I believe the students learn about how to interact with others and they learn pride in their cultural differences. I do feel like it brings students closer. I enjoy doing the assembly, although it is a lot of work and sometimes a lot of drama! And I love it when we’re actually putting it on. The flag ceremony always fills me with pride in our students and our school.”
