After the first Ghostbusters film was released many years ago, the new Ghostbusters film, Frozen Empire, came out on March 22, 2024. Ghostbusters has been a popular franchise throughout the years since the first film came in 1984. The Ghostbusters are a groups of scientists dedicated to the paranormal, who are trying to find ways of getting rid of whatever may threaten their city. In this new movie, a family of three and a teacher go ghost-hunting. They have an infatuation with the paranormal activity going on around the town and are trying to help out others that are being haunted by various ghosts.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a continuation of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. McKenna Grace plays Phoebe, the daughter of Carrie Coon, along with her brother, who is played by Finn Wolfhard. They are accompanied by her science teacher, Mr. Grooberson, who has had an interest with this type of paranormal activity who is also played by Paul Rudd. There are also familiar faces from the original Ghostbusters.
In the movie, Phoebe is confronted by law enforcement and the town mayor, who say that she is too young to be a Ghostbuster at the age of 15. She struggles with the fact that she cannot go about ghost hunting anymore, and so she now has to take on being normal. While the rest of her family goes out hunting, she stays back, trying to gather information about new ancient artifacts that are thought to be cursed. After some various issues with ghost hunting, an ancient artifact is brought to a shop that was cursed. After experimenting on the cursed artifact, something sinister is accidentally released in the town. With Phoebe stuck behind during the action, she is left with helping them through researching: the brains, the idea, and the plan to get rid of this ghost and keep it away from destroying everything and everyone. The movie has unexpected turns as the ghost takes the form of an entity, and is after two things. The Ghostbusters must stop the entity from finishing its quest.
As I watched the movie, I must say that it had very good comedy and the actors were phenomenal. I would give it a six out of 10 stars just because there were slow spots in the middle, and some unanswered questions. I also wish there was more screen time for the OG Ghostbusters, who only appeared in the cameo. Overall, a great movie to go see this weekend!
