Freshman Council Elections

Alicia Carpenter, Student Life Editor

Freshman student council speeches were given in the auditorium on the morning of Friday, Sept. 18.

After the voting took place, the following students were elected as the new representatives of the class of 2019: President Noah Weber, Vice President Melayna Milton, Secretary/Treasurer Jau’more Wilson, and Senators Jordan Ma and Ashley Jaquez.

As senators for this year’s freshman student council, Ma and Jaquez have big plans for their class. Jaquez says that she wanted to be a part of student council to “represent the voice of [the freshman] class.” Their goals for the year include raising money for charities and decreasing the amount of bullying. Jaquez said that it would be a great accomplishment to have more students coming together and showing up to WCHS sporting events to support the teams. Ma says that he really wants his class to have a fun first year of high school. They are also looking to bring end-of-the-year incentives to WCHS, such as movies or field trips.

This is Jaquez’s first year and Ma’s second year being a part of student council. Ma was the class treasurer in 8th grade at the middle school. They both intend on being a part of student council for all of high school. They are also both involved in other school activities. Jaquez participates in Cultural Celebration, Spanish Club, and Leisure Club. Ma is a member of Muse Machine.
