Robotics Club

Alicia Carpenter, Student Life Editor

This year, WCHS is introducing a new club: the Robotics Club. The club consists of students with an interest in robotics and engineering. The Robotics Club will partake in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics competition in March.

The FIRST Robotics competition involves teams that work together to build a robot from a kit of parts sent to them by FIRST Robotics. The robot will then be used to compete in different games and challenges. The challenges are announced in January and the teams have approximately 6 weeks to create their robot.

Currently, the meetings consist of learning about equipment and basic robotics. The meetings are held in club adviser Mr. Michael Neal’s classroom and dates will be released on the announcements. Mr. Neal said that there are about 20 students in the club right now. According to Mr. Neal, this club is an excellent choice for not only students interested in robotics and/or engineering, but also marketing. As well as getting to experience “real-world engineering,” students can help in the sales and making of club merchandise.

Math teacher Mr. Michael Scott is also a Robotics Club adviser. If any of these things interest you, check out the new Robotics Club!
