This fall, WCHS lost their busing service for the 2016-2017 when the school levy on March 15 did not pass. The transportation changes have made parents and students unhappy. The community will make the decision on whether or not to pass the school levy again November 8, election day.

Junior Trinity Heath student said that the busing situation has affected her because she has to walk to school every day. She said that her mom is always worried about her because she doesn’t know what may happen to Heath on the way to school. “Honestly whether the levy gets passed or not, the weather is going to get bad so they should just bring the buses back because not everyone has a car,” Heath said.  She said that she is pretty mad that they stopped running the buses and disagrees to the detention slip if you are late to school because some people, like her, don’t have a ride to school.

WCHS principal, Mr. Craig Myers, said that when a student walks in late for school they have one freebie slip a quarter.

If the buses come back, then Trinity will not have to worry about being late to school or her mom worrying about her and she will not have to walk everyday to school.

“The levy campaign can get tricky, it first set off in spring and impacts more people, not running buses saves more money and doesn’t impact a classroom so much, but the busing drew more attention in need for the levy” said Mr. Myers.

Some parents and students have proposed a later start time. Mr. Myers said that the high school will not change school’s start time because if the levy passes and the high school gets busing back, then the schedule would have to change again.

If the levy passes on November 8, busing will return in January.
