We all know Mr White’s love for data and making mid-day announcements, but there is more to Mr. White than what we see every day. So I’m going to need eeevvveeerrryyybooodddyy’s attention…
Starting out the interview I wanted to know the basics of Mr. White. He enjoys a game of golf and home improvement projects. After a fun game of golf or hanging up student artwork, he likes to cook up a classic taco bar.
When talking more about his golf game the question came to mind: Who are 3 people you would want to play golf with dead or alive? Mr. White took his time and gave it much consideration before responding with Alice Cooper (70s rock singer), Sully Erna (lead singer of Godsmack), and his dear wife whom Mr. White persuaded to learn to play. She isn’t too fond of golf but is pretty good and plays to spend time with him.
Music has always had a huge impact on Mr. White, and from a young age, he has loved hard rock. He grew up listening to the band Kiss, famous for hits such as Rock and Roll All Nite and I Was Made for Lovin’ You. Mr. White has gone to many concerts, his favorite being the 1983 Iron Maiden Tour. He says he remembers every song they played and all the aspects of the concert. Since 1983, he has seen them about 12 times. However, despite this hard rock love, Mr. White is a huge fan of opera and even has season tickets. His favorite is The Barber of Seville, which is about Count Almavia who arrives in Seville to win over the gorgeous Rosina, however, he must compete with Dr. Bartolo who also wishes for her hand in marriage.
We then began discussing more that may strike students as interesting. When asked what Mr. White would do if he won the lottery he said he would invest and buy his wife a new car. I then asked him if he would quit his job or leave this place and he said no, he would want to remain around the kids.
Moving along the question of Mr White has built friendships and relationships within the education system struck me. Many students have noticed the fond friendship Mr. White has with Mr. Spence and the playful banter they have in the halls. Mr. White and Mr. Spence met in the 1997-98 school year at a Roosters. Mr. Spence was with his staff at the time and the two struck up a conversation. From that point on they grew a friendship of over 25 years. They began working together in 2009 and Mr. White considers Mr. Spence “One of the most important people in his life.” The two became a team and have gone through many districts working together through the classic walkie-talkie.
I wrapped up the interview by asking where he sees himself in 5 years, given he should be able to retire in 2 years. However, despite his ability to retire he says he’ll still be here at West Carrollton High School, he wants to actually implement his 5-year plan soon. Mr. White says he feels really good here, he sees potential and can’t wait to watch us grow.
This interview was not only a pleasant one but gave light on what our principal is up to when he’s not in the halls of WCHS. I would encourage all students to strike up a conversation with Mr. White, you never know what you might find.
