Pirate Robotics is a very interesting club at West Carrollton High School whose season started in early January. They didn’t start competitions till early April. Ms. McGuff, Mrs. Reynolds. Also, Mr. Neal is a mentor as well; he was a math teacher last year and is at Sinclair, but still helps out the team. The Miami Valley Regional took place at the Cintas Center on Xavier University’s campus in Cincinnati. Robotics teams can focus on marketing or the building sections of the team, eventually, the robot they build will perform at qualified competitions and possibly world champions if they can get to that point.
The game was revealed in January, dubbed CRESCENDO. The rings that were being shot into the devices were called notes. The devices that the notes were shot into were either called speakers or amps. They are teamed up with two other robots to have a 3v3 with the other alliance’s robots that are on the field. There are multiple rounds of the qualifying competition. They get ranked overall in the qualifying rounds. After all of the qualifying matches are done the top 8 teams get to put together their teams for the finals.
They had their qualifying competition this past weekend where they competed in ten different qualifying matches. Mason Aydelott, a returning senior, has given insight into how the experience went. “It was an overall fun experience; everyone on the team and in the FRC is nice and loves talking about robotics.” He added that he will always remember how other teams loved their marketing ideas and their idea of a scavenger hunt. He said that it’s nice to know that he has hopefully made a lasting impact on FRC and the community and the teams that go there.
