First quarter proved to be the best quarter in which our students have performed for over three years. The two charts below represent the first quarter performance data from the past three years. The school year has gotten off to a great start.

The students and staff worked extremely well together to achieve these numbers. I can not stress enough that a sustained focus and effort will be crucial to continue this level of achievement. Parents and guardians, please remain vigilant on checking grades in ProgressBook. We want to build off this great start.

Freshmen Report

Getting off to a good start with your high school career is so important because it sets the tone for the rest of the year. Students who can pass all their classes each quarter are in such a good position to stay on track to graduate. Please remember every class the students take Freshmen year and Sophomore year are required to graduate. We have never hit 171 Freshmen passing all classes first quarter, so we are excited to see they had such a solid start. Those students who EARNED 1 or more Fs can rebound and finish the year strong with three straight quarters of passing all their classes.

Grade Point Averages (GPA) are the main factor to Seniors having choices for their life after high school. The higher the GPA the more options they will have and more chances at scholarships to pay for their choice. We stress to our Freshmen that every assignment counts, that every test counts. Every quarter adds to a student’s cumulative GPA so the better the students perform in class the higher the GPA. Each quarter we measure GPAs so students know if they have had a positive impact on their cumulative GPA r a negative one. The goal is simple: MAKE HONOR ROLL EVERY QUARTER IN HIGH SCHOOL AND YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD GPA.
Sophomore Report

The Sophomores have found the Sophomore slump. This is a fixable situation and knowing this class they will improve in the second, third and fourth quarter. This is a high performing class that will respond to the challenge. Please, parents and guardians, make sure you are checking ProgressBook on a regular basis to keep up with your student’s grades.

There are seven quarters left for the Sophomores to improve their cumulative GPA as high as possible. I stress to students and parents that not only does every class count towards graduation Sophomore year, but also every grade impacts the cumulative GPA. The goal should be Honor Roll every quarter from now until graduation.
Junior Report

The Junior class is a strong academic class. The passing rate chart only has 12 Juniors who are now off track for graduation. There are three quarters remaining for ALL of the Juniors to pass all their classes. I cannot stress enough this is a crucial year for these students so they need to focus and finish strong.

I always stress to our students how important their GPA is to the choices they will have for post high school life. The higher the GPA the more options they will have leaving high school. While the majority of the Juniors are in good shape the remaining 25 need to focus their efforts through the end of the year.
Senior Report

The Senior class is in great shape for being on track to graduate. Only having 12 students with two or more Fs means every Senior has a chance to graduate. The key factor for every Senior is maintaining focus on the work and developing their post high school.

The class had a strong fourth quarter last year and has continued through first quarter. The 25 students below a one point GPA need to improve but to have 97 Seniors make Honor Roll is a solid performance. Many of our Seniors with a 3.0 and higher GPA will be competitive for scholarships through out the year. Seniors need to sustain their focus and efforts through graduation to maximize opportunities for financial awards. The biggest step a parent or guardian can take to help their Seniors is to complete the FASFA application as soon as possible.
Reminders
- State law prohibits cellphones, headphones, and smart watches in the classroom. The student handbook defines the discipline steps for repeat violators. We have too many students on the verge of being assigned a laptop and working from home because of the violation of state law. PLEASE SPEAK WITH YOUR STUDENT ABOUT PUTTING ALL DEVICES IN THEIR LOCKERS BEFORE FIRST PERIOD AND KEEPING THE DEVICES IN THEIR LOCKERS UNTIL DISMISSAL.
- Every day– on time. We have far too many students who come late or not at all. First period starts at 8:00. All students should be in the building by 7:55 every morning. The better our attendance the better our performance.
- We have four classes that are consistently performing slightly better than average. Our biggest challenge is attendance and distractions. We will keep eliminating the distractions, but we need help with attendance. The goal is to become a five-star high school and we can get there but we have to have a sustained focus and a sustained effort from every stake holder.
