Costa Rica Trip

Mr. Newman, Mr. Scott and Mrs. Ulrich planned a trip for their Environmental science and Spanish students to go to Costa Rica last summer from June 8-15. Their Spanish and Environmental Science classes were all invited to go learn about different types of ecosystems, biodiversity, and culture in Costa Rica.

Many students went on the trip to Costa Rica including senior Haley Nixon who roomed with her good friends senior Bailey Jenkins and senior Hannah Glowik.  They all had an amazing time there and Haley said, “There is no doubt in my mind that I would go again.”

Everyone had to wake up fairly early most days, but it was completely worth it to get a full day of the beautiful sites and places in Costa Rica. They learned many things there and had fun exploring. The most exotic and interesting things they did included ziplining, whitewater rafting and swimming in the hot springs. “Everything was just so amazing” Nixon said.

Though most things seemed to be amazing, there was a little bit of trouble in paradise. Senior Brian Dinh was all packed up and ready for the trip. He checked his bags, had his water bottle and camera–he was ready to go! When they all finally got to Costa Rica they went to claim their luggage. All had theirs except Dinh. The airport seemed to have misplaced his suitcase. Dinh had nothing but the clothes on his back, his camera, and an empty water bottle. Dinh’s friends were nice enough to share all of their hygienic products and the chaperones were  kind and bought him some new clothes to wear on the trip. Though things may have seemed terrible, Dinh said it made the trip fun because  he got “hooked up with Costa Rican swag.”
